Washing Your Thor Motor Coach Class A RV
Whether you’re just now pulling out your RV or you’ve just gotten back from this camping season’s first trip, you might be looking at your Thor Motor Coach Class A RV and realizing it needs a bit of a hose-down. However, when you’re looking at such a big project, it can be a bit of a head-scratcher as far as where to start. That’s why Golden Gait Trailers & RVs has provided some tips for washing your Thor Motor Coach Class A motorhome. If you need additional advice, stop by our location in Concord, North Carolina, near Raleigh and Charlotte.
When To Wash
If you ask around your RV communities, you’ll probably notice that everyone has a slightly different approach to washing their rigs. Some don’t do it very often and others do it as often as they can. There’s not really any set rule to this, but there are some times of the year in which it might be a good idea. Here at Golden Gait Trailers & RVs, we recommend washing your Thor Motor Coach Class A motorcoach a few times a year, at least: once before you put it in storage, once after you pull it out again, and once after every camping trip. Of course, you can always wash it more often, but this is a good starting point for those who are new to the Class A lifestyle.
Gather Supplies
Before you get started, you’ll want to gather all the necessary supplies for washing your RV. At its most basic, this should include some rags and soft-bristle brushes, especially one with a telescoping handle, if you have access to one. You can use an RV-specific washing agent, although a car wash and wax product, or other gentle detergent, will work just fine.
Some RV owners choose to use a pressure washer. These devices can be incredibly helpful in getting tough layers of dirt and grime off, but be careful when using them. The water comes out at a speed that can strip finishings and paint, so keep some distance between you and the motorcoach and don’t point the nozzle in one spot for too long.
Go Top To Bottom
When you’re washing your Thor Motorcoach Class A motorhome, you’ll want to start at the top and work your way down. This way, the dirt and grime from the top of the RV won’t ruin the work you’ve already done at the bottom. Section off parts of your motorhome, in vertical strips, so you can wash and rinse before the soap suds dry on.
Roof
Before you reach the sides, you’ll want to wash off the roof. This area receives the most abuse from the elements and debris, so it’s going to need the most work. Thor Motor Coach Class A RVs come with a ladder on the side, specifically to help you access the roof, which can be well over 12 feet off the ground. When using the ladder and walking on the roof, you’ll want to exercise caution to avoid serious injury. Wear shoes with good grip and start at the far end of the roof so you can make your way back to the ladder and avoid walking on slippery surfaces. Find a spotter to keep an eye on you in case there is an accident and you need help.
Detailing
When the exterior is completely clean, you’ll want to add some final touches to tie everything together. Consider applying a fresh coat of wax every 4-6 months. Use automotive window cleaner to clean the windshield and other glass panels around the rig. Apply sealant conditioner to your seals and feel for signs of tearing or holes that may need to be addressed before your next trip. Put some fresh slide-out lubricant on your slide-out bars and tracks. For an extra sleek shine, you can get tire shine and the appropriate rim cleaner to make your wheels look brand new. Sometimes, it’s these little touches that can go a long way.
