Tips for Cleaning Your RV’s Interior

Oct. 1 2018 Miscellaneous By ___

An RV seems like a lot of work to clean, especially when you're excited about your next camping adventure, but discover that your vehicle is a mess. Motorhomes tend to pick up a lot of dust while you’re exploring the outdoors or when they’ve been in storage for a few months. With regular cleaning and maintenance, your vehicle will always be in tip-top shape and preparing for another trip will feel like a breeze! We’re here to help you with our best tips to make your RV’s interior sparkling clean. If you have any questions or want to browse our collection of campers, stop by Golden Gait Trailers & RVs in Concord, NC. We’ll be happy to assist you with all your motorhome and travel trailer needs.

Get rid of the clutter

If you want to prepare your RV for your next big adventure, the first step is to remove all the detritus that accumulated while you were on the road such as empty bottles, food wrappers, plastic bags, etc. Sweep away any food crumbs and remember to wipe down the refrigerator and all the cabinets, inside and out. The last thing you’ll want are leftovers you forgot to throw out, which might not smell the best and could attract pests inside your RV.

After you’ve cleared the waste, get a vacuum cleaner with a long attachment so you’re able to reach every nook and corner. Remove dust from the windows, ceiling, curtains, upholstery, and countertops. It’s amazing how dirty the air vents can get with use, so make sure to wash the screens, clean the filter, and scrub the inside of the vents. To keep your cabinets and tables looking like new, use a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent or polish.

Going camping means spending time in muddy terrains, which also means outside dirt and sand will make its way into your RV on shoes, jackets, pants, etc. Keeping your floors looking good is an uphill battle. Consider using a small hand vacuum for the carpet. If you’ve a hard floor surface with tiles or wooden planks, follow up vacuum cleaning with a mop using a good floor cleaner mixed with water.

Clean the upholstery and do the laundry

If your RV has leather furniture, wipe down the surface with a vinyl or leather protector that can also be applied to give a shiny new look to the dash of your motorhome. You can consider getting the fabric upholstery dry cleaned or using a fabric refresher to wash away the stains and odors. It’s a whole lot of fun to be on the road for several days but it can be quite unhealthy if you don’t change the linens periodically. Always travel with at least 2 sets of linens for a quick change. Don’t forget to wash all the towels and sheets after your trip. You’ll thank yourself when you’re planning your next getaway. If your mattress is smelling musty, clean it with a vacuum and spray it down with perfumed essential oil. Allowing the mattress to air out for several hours will make it seem like new again.

Keep your bathroom clean and hygienic

You’ll want to keep your motor coach sanitized for the overall health and comfort of your family. When you’re out on the road, the RV’s bathroom should be cleaned at least once a week and more often if the whole family is traveling. To keep the toilet spick and span, we recommend regularly using water, a pine-based disinfectant, and disposable paper towels. As for the rest of the bathroom, don’t forget to clean the mirror and mop the floor. Just be careful about the shower curtain and tub. They’re made from materials that can easily be damaged with harsh cleaning products. Instead wipe them with a soft towel to keep grime from building up over time. Wrap up all the cleaning by spraying an air freshener and placing scented plugins; they’re perfect to keep your rig smelling great on all your camping adventures.

Cleaning up your motor coach after a long and relaxing trip isn't the most fun part of RV camping, but it can go a long way in extending the life of your camper and create generations of family fun.
