Initial Price
One of the first big differences you’ll notice is the initial price. With more moving parts that require more specialized production, diesel motorhomes are going to be the more expensive option. Sometimes, the difference is significant and it can make affording one difficult. If it’s completely out of your price range, then we don’t suggest you overburden yourself financial. Keep in mind though, for anyone who can afford it, a diesel motorhome will probably last longer than a gas motorhome, which can make all the money up front worth it.
Maintenance Costs
As you may have guessed, this means there’s going to be a discrepancy in maintenance costs. Gas motorhomes will probably require more maintenance, sooner. This will mean a higher frequency of trips to a technician and, knowing it doesn’t have as long a lifespan, at a certain point you’ll just be throwing money at it.

Accessibility
Unfortunately for diesel motorhomes, gas motorhomes tend to be the better choice for this category. Diesel motorhomes are bigger, which means you’ll have more interior space to spread out. However, it also means you’ll be limited as far as where you can go. Not all campgrounds have spaces big enough for a diesel motorhome. Plus, you’ll need to drive your rig everywhere and not everyone is comfortable with this.
Fuel Economy
Fuel is always going to be a big factor when it comes to driving an RV. So why even bother manufacturing diesel motorhomes if gas ones work just fine? Diesel burns slower than gas, which means you won’t need to make as many stops if you plan to drive your rig around a lot (this is one of the reasons why diesel is a prefered fuel for truckers as well). However, diesel is also slightly more expensive. Not by much, but it can add up after a while. Think about how many miles you’ll be clocking and which fuel type makes more sense for your travels.
