So once you’ve decided to go with a motorhome, you can be sure that you’ve already made the right choice, but the next step is to decide which type of motorhome best suits you. There are three different sizes, a range of layouts, and many different manufacturers to choose from, so we want to help you with this process here at Golden Gait Trailers and RV.

Read on to learn more about the selection process, and when you’re ready to come check out a few models in person, don’t hesitate to visit us at our dealership, where we proudly serve customers from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Consider the Size

The first thing you’ll consider about a new motorhome will obviously be the size. An RV isn’t comfortable if it doesn’t have enough bedrooms, slide outs, and a large enough living area to accommodate you and your family. By contrast, maybe you just have a small family, travel alone, or with just one other person, in which case it would be excessive to drive around a two-bedroom unit with residential furnishings. There are three main types of motorhomes, and between the three classes, you should be able to pick one that’s just right for your lifestyle.

If you want the biggest motorhome there is, you’ll be looking for a model in the class A category. These RVs are frequently built on a large bus or truck chassis. They have multiple rooms, a large kitchen, and some of the most luxurious interiors you’ll ever find. Generally, they’re the best choice for large families.

On the other side of the spectrum, a class B motorhome is the smallest type you’ll find. Ideal for one to four people, a class B is built on a commercial van chassis. The space will feel limited if you plan on bringing fewer passengers, but modern motorhomes of this size utilize space very well and make them feel more comfortable than the size appears.

Falling in the middle range between these two styles, a class C motorhome is moderately sized. It’s built on an industrial truck chassis, and has an engine that’s only slightly less powerful than the ones you’ll find on a class A. A great advantage of these motorhomes is that they’re easier to drive than the bulky class A models, but also offer much more space than you’ll find in any class B.

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important parts of an RV. This is where you’ll find all the appliances that can make the difference between an ordinary camping trip and a home-like resort. That’s why, when selecting a motorhome, you should pay careful attention to the kitchen to make sure it has everything you need. If you want a residential refrigerator, you’ll need to buy a model with enough space and weight capacity to support one. Conversely, you might only want the bare minimum of amenities, in which case, you might lean more toward a smaller motorhome that has little more than a small fridge and a range.

Additional Features

Similarly to what you do when looking at an RV’s kitchen, you’ll want to consider all the additional features that you think will be important before buying a motorhome. Larger ones obviously come complete with a lot more amenities, while smaller models tend to come with minimal furnishings. We recommend making a list of everything that’s important to you, so you can save yourself a lot of time while at the dealership.
